Organization Spotlight: St. Paul’s Foundation

st-paulsAt DP World, we are strongly focused on social responsibility and improving the lives of those in our community. As part of this philosophy, we are making a dedicated effort to promote organizations that contribute to the greater good. We believe when more organizations do their part, the entire community benefits.

There are many wonderful nonprofits and charities in the Vancouver area contributing to this objective. In this post, we are spotlighting St. Paul’s Foundation.

The Organization

A registered charity, St. Paul’s Foundation supports the needs of St. Paul’s Hospital, a highly regarded provincial health care provider in the Vancouver area. The hospital specializes in heart and lung disease, kidney/renal, HIV/AIDS treatment, urban health, mental health and seniors’ services. St. Paul’s integrates the best clinical care with world-class education and research, and is devoted to extending its services to the area’s most vulnerable populations, including those impacted by mental illness, homelessness and poverty.

St. Paul’s provides patient and family centered health care to all British Columbians.

The excellent level of care and many programmes the hospital provides to patients in need would not be possible without the support of the foundation. The needs of the hospital vary, and can be anything from raising dollars for vital pieces of equipment that must be repaired or replaced, to funding clinical or research programs, or teaching initiatives. Overall, the point of the greatest needs fund is to enhance patient comfort and care.

The Mission

Having access to quality and compassionate health care is a crucial element to maintaining community wellness. The staff at St. Paul’s Foundation is driven by the desire to support the critical health care services so many community members and families rely on. Each person at St. Paul’s has witnessed the incredible impact that’s been made in the lives of individuals and their families, and understands how that impact can spread to make Vancouver a better place for all.

Lights of Hope

An annual tradition in the Vancouver area since 1998, St. Paul’s Foundation’s Lights of Hope fundraiser features a spectacular display of holiday lights on the façade of St. Paul’s Hospital in downtown Vancouver. This year’s community celebration will be held November 24, 2016 and will be complete with fireworks, food trucks and musical entertainment.

The goal of the Lights of Hope fundraiser is to support the greatest needs of the hospital. Lights of Hope would not be possible without corporate support. Corporate gifts lay the foundation of this campaign and provide the majority of revenue raised. Businesses that donate get their name and logo on a star that becomes part of the display for hundreds to see. It’s an excellent opportunity for businesses to engage the crowd and bring their brand to life, all while participating in a great cause.

Financial donations are wonderful, but certainly not the only way to get involved—volunteers are also critical to the event’s success. 150 volunteers are required to plan and construct the light display alone.

How Your Organization Can Help

There are several ways local businesses can get involved and help the foundation year-round. For instance, organizations can host third-party events or participate in company-matched payroll deduction plans. With a payroll deduction plan, individuals and companies can align their contributions to specific programmes or areas within the hospital that interest them, such as a certain research initiative or piece of medical equipment.
